Sort peeps by follow date and new filters

PeepNote can now sort your Peep list by the date you followed a peep in addition to alphabetically by name as before. This will allow you to quickly see the most recent peeps followed and add the reason for following, add notes, and tag them.

We’ve also added two more filters. You can now filter your peeps by those with or without notes, and by those who are following you or aren’t following you. In combination with the other filters and tags, you can create views to easily find and manage a large number of peeps.

PeepNote: now with favorites, pausing, larger plan limits, and background importing

On Christmas Eve, PeepNote quietly received a major upgrade, it’s largest upgrade since the initial release. With this upgrade we added several new features that we hope will make it easier to use PeepNote and better help you to organize your peeps and take notes on them.

Favorites and Filtering
You can now mark a peep as a favorite by clicking on the star to the left of the peep’s avatar. Once you have marked your favorites, you can easily display only your favorites using the new filter at the top of your peeps listing page.

Click on star to toggle them as a favorite

Use filters to show only favorites, only non-favorites or both

Larger Plan Limits

The default limit for the free account was increased from 250 to 2500. Remember too, that once you import all your peeps, you can delete some to make room for more if you need it, and you can add peeps that you don’t follow.

Background Import Process

Previously, when you first signed up, you watched the progress of the import process from Twitter before you could begin. The same was true of the updating process (reimporting).  As of this release, all imports are done in the background. This means you don’t have to wait for the import to complete, and, if Twitter is down you don’t have to wait on Twitter, and the import will continue once Twitter is responding again.

The progress for the import can be seen on the right hand side of your peeps listing page.

Next to the import icon, it will show the status, and how many peeps have been imported

Pause Following a Peep

You have probably experienced the situation where someone you follow may go to a conference or an event from which they are going to tweet a lot, most of which you just aren’t interested in. From Twitter’s perspective, your only option is to unfollow them. But then you’ll have to remember who you unfollowed and remember to refollow them. Now, with PeepNote, you can pause someone. PeepNote will unfollow them from Twitter, but mark them as “paused” in PeepNote. There is a new filter to see which peeps are paused, and easily “unpause” them later to continue following them again.

PeepNote Facebook Fan Page

We have created a Facebook fan page for PeepNote. So if you have found PeepNote to be helpful and if you think PeepNote is a great idea, we would love your support by joining us on our new fan page.

That’s all the new updates right now, but we have more right around the corner. Thanks for your support and we would love to hear your feedback.

PeepNote gets a high performance search engine, and streamlines the homepage

Over the weekend, PeepNote received an upgrade to its search engine. You can now search the bios of your Peeps (you can’t even do that on Twitter), all the notes, and the reasons for following and unfollowing, and it is fast! Try it!

We also simplified the home page, hoping to get to the point with a little less reading and in a little less time for new users. Take a look.

Let us know what you think of the improvements to the home page and the performance of the search engine, and keep watching for more improvements. We’ve got a big one planned next!

Example of using PeepNote

I don’t know about you, but I have a terrible memory. So I have to carefully bookmark web sites so I can find them again, use an application to help me remember my passwords, and use a to do manager to help me remember what needs to get done.

When it comes to the people I meet online, like on Twitter, I also have things I want to remember about them as I get to know them by reading their tweets and when chatting with them online.

This is where PeepNote comes in. With a simple login process that takes less than a minute, you can get started importing those you follow on Twitter and gain the ability to tag them and take notes on them.

Now at first you might wonder how that could be helpful, so I put together an example. Jason Fried, of 37 Signals, is someone I hope to meet someday. I agree with what he says on web site design and running a business and have learned a lot from him. I put together some notes on my PeepNote page on him to help jog my memory about some of the things he has said and some of the facts about him.

Should I ever go to a conference where he is going to be I can review the notes, or, if I want to send him a message on Twitter, or a birthday card, I might even be able to reference something I took notes on. Click the image below to see a snapshot in full size of what such a page might look like.

You may want to keep notes on someone you plan to make a sales call on, or take notes on someone special you met and you want to send them a gift on their birthday.

The examples are endless really. When we want to make a good impression on someone to show them we care or respect them, remembering something they said or did in the past, or one of their preferences, or something you have in common, goes a long way.

If you have other ways in which you plan to use PeepNote, why not let us know?

How to Vote for PeepNote

First visit the leaderboard page on the Rails Rumble web site.

Second, click on the button labeled: I Want to Vote!

Next, if you know that you already have an OpenID login, select the openid service you used by clicking on the button with the down arrow next to the url field. If you have no idea what openid is, or can’t remember your openid login, then click on the link ‘Register for a new account with us’.

Existing Account

If you are logging in with an existing openid, when you click the down arrow, you will pick your openid server and then enter in your openid username at the bottom of the popup box.

Now click Sign In and you will be prompted to enter your password if you aren’t logged in yet to that server, or if you already are, to simply to continue and grant access to Rails Rumble if you already are.

You can now skip down to the voting section. New users read on.

New Users: without an openid login

If you don’t have an openid login, you then clicked ‘Register for a new account with us’. You are then presented with a form to sign up at myOpenID for the Rumble. Choose a username and a password and enter your email address, a nickname and the capthca text as seen in the image (to ensure you aren’t a fake person, ie. a computer).

Once you do this it will send an email to your email address. You must click on the confirmation link in the email and you will be all ready to vote.

Note: the Rumble site might let you in to vote w/o confirming from the email, but the rumor is it might not then count, so be sure to confirm your registration from the link in your email.

How to Vote

Once you are registered and logged in, you will see, on your profile page a list of finalists with boxes next to them. PeepNote will appear on this list as well, closer to the top.

Click on PeepNote, and a box will open for you to rate how many stars you believe we deserve in each category. They all average together to give an overall score. 1 is the worst, and 5 is the best, and naturally we think we crushed it, and deserve straight 5’s. ;) Vote your conscience.

Once you have selected the stars you have voted for PeepNote.

You can also choose to add a comment or suggestion and we do read and pay attention to them all.

Feel free to vote for the other sites on here as well, and thanks for your time.
